Define Text & Media in a context of Semiotic

In my understanding of semiotic studies, text is an assemblage of signs such as words, images, sounds or gestures constructed and interpreted with reference to the conventions associated with a genre and in a particular medium of communication. While, Media is a tools or medium for a sign to be carried out. For example, radio, television, newspapers, magazines, books, photographs, hand sign and more.

  1. Yes, I agreed what you had mention earlier. In my opinion, semiotics relates to the context, and signs of the things or substances in a more specific way. As what had mentioned above, text and media are one of the representative of signs that connects the meaning and structure through the study of semiotics.

  2. For my point of view, text and media is like our brain automatically will stimulate what we saw, hear or taste. Where the text (message) will compromise through media (medium) to delivery the content of message, and easily can understood or misunderstood of audience with what signs we probably we used.

  3. As my understanding of semiotic is a study of signs.sign is something stands for somethings other than itself.
The definition is "semioyic is concerned with everything that can be taken as sign".
The semiotic sense and signs take the form of sounds, words, images, gestures and objects.

  5. In my opinion, in a context of Semiotic, text is something can be treated as a sign or something contains signs. media is the one can show or spread text(sign). It's like seeds and wind, wind can bring seeds to another place, and seeds can grow to be a plant to be a sign of nature, life, spring or something else.

  6. Semiotics is the study of signs and sign processes (semiosis), indication, designation, likeness, analogy, metaphor, symbolism, signification, and communication. The press uses a visual channel, its language is written, and it draws upon technologies of photographic reproduction, graphic design, and printing. Radio, by contrast, uses an oral channel and spoken language and relies on technologies of sound recording and broadcasting, whilst television combines technologies of sound- and image-recording and broadcasting...
